Recently I heard a song about praising before the breakthrough and I thought to myself, am I praising before and through my breakthrough? The answer to that? honestly, no. So, this new blog post will be about what God has been teaching me lately.
Lately I’ve been in a funk, I’ve been stuck in this season of feeling emotionless. It’s been a rough few months of being very discouraged in my faith. I had so much passion and faith, but I just couldn’t FEEL God. When I worshiped, prayed, or was reading God’s word I could not feel His presence. And let me tell ya, when you can’t feel the presence of God you feel SO far from Him. In moments like these it’s so easy to give up, you can easily just say, “well I can’t feel God so He must of left me, so why pursue Him still?” Rebuke that lie with Joshua 1:5, ” I will be with you. I will not leave you or forsake you.” It’s easy to run, as humans we love to flee the second something hard comes our way. Why do we do this? Because, we seek self satisfaction in the moment and the world can give it to us in an instant (but it’s temporary). So when something hard comes our way we settle for the “easy fix” instead of pursuing God. Only God can satisfy our souls and it may not be instantly, but oh boy is it worth the wait. It is worth months of heartache and pain, because His love and goodness is the only thing that can bring our souls pure JOY.
I’m not sure what season of life some of y’all are in, but what I do know is you don’t have to have it all together. It’s okay if you don’t desire to read or to pray because you simply have no emotion. God knows the depths of your heart, he knows what you’re feeling and thinking. So you don’t have to pretend to Him that you have it together and that you desire to sit in His presence and read. He doesn’t want the “perfect” and “put together” you. He wants the real, honest, and vulnerable you. He simply wants you and your heart alone. So this is where discipline comes in. You may not want to sit down and read and pray, but you can still choose to. You can choose to still persevere through. Be honest with God and pour out your heart to him on where your heart is and how you’re feeling. He desires you to. You can choose to praise Him even if you can’t feel His presence in worship. Still choose to read His word and declare it over your life until it triumphs your emotions.
Psalm 69:32 says, ” When the humble see it they will be glad; you who seek God, let your hearts revive.” We need to hold captive this truth that God WILL revive our hearts. Continue to pray, read, and worship God through the highs and the lows. Because the truth is, He will revive your heart, he will awaken your soul and light you on fire again. Sometimes we need to hit rock bottom to really understand the NEED for our Savior. Remind yourself of the day you became a believer and how close you felt to God, praise Him for how He has transformed your life and how He is going to continue to transform you and mold you. Praise Him for His goodness and faithfulness. There is beauty in the brokenness, and God can take your brokenness and turn it for good, He can and WILL make you whole again. He is a faithful father and deserves all the praise. What an honor it is that we get to be his sons and daughters and have the opportunity to Praise Him, but also be known and loved by Him.
I just want encourage everyone to go read Isaiah 25:1 which says, ” O Lord, you are my God; I will exalt you; I will praise your name, for you have done wonderful things, plans formed of old, faithful and sure.” Meditate on it let it become your anthem through the good and bad. Praise through the breakthrough.
